Update on Scoring
Spanish Edition Only of the
Regents Examination in Physical Setting/Earth Science
June 20, 2006

This notice pertains to the scoring of question 3 of Part A and question 61 of Part B-2 only for those students who used the Spanish edition of the June 20, 2006, Regents Examination in Physical Setting/ Earth Science either exclusively or in conjunction with the English edition.
Question 3:
In the Spanish edition of the examination, “smallest boulder” is translated as “canto rodado mas pequeno.” When viewed in conjunction with the Reference Table, “canto rodado mas pequeno” could be interpreted to mean “cobble.” Therefore, students who used the Spanish edition either exclusively or in conjunction with the English edition should be given one credit for either choice 2 (200 cm/sec) or for the answer provided in the Scoring Key, choice 3 (300 cm/sec).
Question 61:
In the answer booklet for the Spanish edition, epoch is indicated but in the examination booklet the student is asked for the geologic era.
All students who used the Spanish edition either exclusively or in conjunction with the English edition should be given one credit for either Cenozoic or Pleistocene.
Please photocopy this notice and give a copy of it to each teacher scoring the Spanish edition of this examination.
