Hinduism Emerges

The Babylonian king, Hammurabi promulgated one of the earliest legal codes. In his own words, he did so to: cause justice to prevail; to destroy the wickedness and evil, and to prevent the strong from oppressing the weak. He established legal procedures for law courts, regulated property rights, and set forth family members duties. By today’s standards the Code of Hammurabi’s seems harsh, but it was the precursor of legal codes throughout the Mediterranean basin and suthwestern Asia.
