The State Education Department, in cooperation with BOCES around the State, is holding regional forums to disseminate information on the Grade 3-8 Testing Program and the English Language Arts and Mathematics Grade-by-Grade Curricula. The goal of the Regional Forums is to help all stakeholders better understand the impact of this testing program and the changes that will occur as a result of its implementation, while at the same time, allowing us to hear concerns, suggestions and comments about the new testing system.
Each one-day Regional Forum will have two sessions: Session I, from 1:00-4:00 p.m., is designed for educators (administrators and instructional staff). This three-hour session will cover testing, curriculum (ELA and Math Standards), and impact on special populations. Staff from the Offices of Standards, Assessment and Reporting, Curriculum and Instructional Support and VESID will make presentations. However, the majority of the time will be spent in facilitated feedback sessions, concluding with a whole-group discussion. Session II will be a two-hour evening meeting for Board of Education members, parents, and PTA and community members. The same topics will be addressed.
For both sessions, comments will be recorded and questions and answers not previously addressed will be posted to: http://www.emsc.nysed.gov/3-8/home.html .
A complete list of the dates and locations for Regional Forums is also available on the web site listed above.
